As engine power increases, so does the heat generated within the engine system, particularly in turbocharged applications. This underscores the importance of an upgraded intercooler system. The new CSF 992 Turbo/S Intercooler System stands out as a crucial bolt-on modification, especially given its placement atop the engine.

Since the introduction of the first water-cooled Porsche 911 Turbo with the 996 variant in 2001, the Turbo has earned its reputation as "the everyday supercar." With each successive model, from the 997 to the 991 and now the latest 992, the boundaries of usable performance have been pushed on various terrains - be it the street, racetrack, or drag strip. The Porsche Turbo remains one of the most advanced tuning platforms globally, accommodating modifications ranging from simple bolt-ons and tunes to built engines, upgraded turbos, and standalone ECU management systems on vehicles boasting well over 1,000WHP.

In a departure from the conventional side-mounted intercoolers positioned behind the front door ducts seen in earlier water-cooled Turbo models, the new 992 generation has relocated the intercooler system to the top of the engine compartment. Fresh ambient air is now directed into the intercooler system through redesigned ducts situated beneath the rear decklid.

The intercooler ducts, located on each side of the car's rear quarter panels, intake cold, fresh air. This air is then directed into the inlet tanks on either side of the intercooler system module. As the charge-air flows through the intercooler core, heat transfer occurs, facilitated by ambient air passing through the core from the top intercooler ducts and exiting below the vehicle. Subsequently, the intercooled charge-air from both cores converges in the single center section outlet tank before proceeding into the y-pipe connected to the engine's throttle body.

Below are comparisons of data from two runs: one utilizing the stock intercooler system and the other incorporating the CSF High-Performance Intercooler System. These tests began in 4th gear at 2500 RPM, progressed through a shift into 5th gear, and continued to redline.

Please note: Both tests were conducted on the same day. The OEM intercooler tests were conducted first, around 9:00 AM, with significantly lower ambient air temperature and density altitude (DA). The CSF intercooler tests were conducted around 2:00 PM. At the start of the pulls, the stock intercooler run exhibited approximately 40°F cooler intercooler inlet start temperatures and 20°F cooler IC outlet temperatures. Therefore, this data has been adjusted for real-world results and a fair comparison. The boost pressure spike seen in these graphs reflects the shift from 4th to 5th gear, during which the throttle closes slightly.
