More Info:
Redstuff ceramic brake pads are renowned for their low dust performance, and the latest blend further minimizes pad "Pick up" or disc scoring while reducing dust even more. Tested at the UK Motor Industries Research Association (MIRA), early Redstuff pads decreased car stopping distance by nearly 50 feet from 100 MPH, offering an impressive 30% brake improvement.
Redstuff serves as EBC's premium low dust pad, suitable for fast street driving on various types of cars. It's made with Aramid fiber Ceramic particles for enhanced braking performance. Unlike other pads, Redstuff doesn't contain Ceramic fibers, making it copper-free to meet environmental regulations. It's also free of sulphides or lead, ensuring low dust output. Moreover, it's fully ECE R 90 brake safety tested and approved.
While some dust is inevitable as brake pads wear, EBC's pads use zero steel fiber, opting instead for less aggressive aramid fibers like Twaron and Kevlar. These fibers are easy to wash off wheels and won't etch into wheel lacquers or alloy.
EBC Redstuff pads are long-lasting and take approximately 500 kilometers to fully bed down and demonstrate their complete performance. To aid the bed-in process, all EBC pads are surface coated with their Brake-in accelerator compound.
Bed-In Procedure:
EBC Redstuff is not recommended for track use and requires a break-in period of 100-150 miles of street driving to self-seat. During the initial 300-400 miles, it's essential to drive cautiously as dust levels decrease, and the pads progressively improve. However, for drivers who push their brakes hard:
After properly seating the pads to your rotors, typically after 300 miles of use, you may notice an odor or even some smoke as the pads burn off "surface volatiles." This process occurs during hard braking, where the pads experience rotor temperatures of 400-500°C for the first time, which is not typical in everyday driving.
Once the pads are properly seated, they perform better after undergoing heat curing or "Green Fade" during their first severe use, a process common to all brake pads, whether made by EBC or any other manufacturer.
