The Z1 Coolant Pump Upgrade Kit for VR30-powered Infiniti Q50 and Q60 vehicles is engineered to enhance coolant flow through the factory water-to-air charge air coolers, catering to both non-Red Sport and Red Sport models. By amplifying coolant flow, this kit reduces charge air temperatures, resulting in more consistent power delivery.

Heat, a significant byproduct of horsepower in forced induction systems, poses a challenge to maintaining consistent power output. To address this issue, Infiniti incorporated two water-to-air intercoolers, a single heat exchanger, and electric coolant pumps in their charge air system. However, for non-Red Sport Q50 or Q60 models, a single coolant pump supplies the charge air cooling system. This setup proved insufficient in regulating coolant temperatures, prompting Infiniti to introduce a second pump in Red Sport models to alleviate temperature concerns. This upgrade gained popularity among non-Red Sport Q owners. While other companies offer upgrades to the Red Sport pump, we asked ourselves... why stop there?

UPGRADE FOR ALL

Z1's Coolant Pump Upgrade Kit is a straightforward solution crafted to cater to both Red Sport and non-Red Sport models. When paired with the stock heat exchanger, this upgrade delivers a remarkable 51% boost in coolant flow for non-RS models and an additional 12% increase for RS models. When combined with an aftermarket heat exchanger, you can anticipate an impressive 82% increase for non-Red Sport models and 35% for Red Sport models. This offers a significant advantage for non-RS owners while still providing an enhancement for Red Sport owners. However, achieving these figures wasn't as simple as merely adding another OE-style pump. To attain these performance gains, we meticulously engineered a comprehensive solution centered around the powerful Pierburg CWA100 coolant pump. Integrating this pump with the factory ECU proved to be a challenging task, requiring more than just wiring it into the factory harness.

ADAPTIVE LANGUAGE

To ensure seamless operation of the larger auxiliary pump akin to the factory pump, we engineered a controller capable of converting the factory ECU's pulse width modulated pump signal into the higher frequency signal necessary to control the Pierburg pump. Z1's Coolant Pump Controller not only serves as a power supply for the larger pump but also connects directly to the battery, preventing voltage drop when the pump operates at its maximum capacity. Access to the battery is facilitated through a bespoke firewall grommet, designed to seamlessly integrate into the firewall surrounding the battery, ensuring a tidy installation. To further streamline the engine bay, we chose to encase the power supply harness within the controller's weather-resistant box, eliminating clutter. The controller effortlessly integrates with the factory wiring via a fully plug-and-play harness featuring factory-style connectors, eliminating the need for cutting or splicing and enabling a fully reversible installation process.

Don't forget the heat exchanger! Your Q's stock heat exchanger represents the greatest flow restriction in the charge air cooling system. While you can use this with a stock heat exchanger, you will need an aftermarket heat exchanger like Z1's Performance Heat Exchanger to take full advantage of the higher flow rate pump. Furthermore, installing our coolant pump upgrade with a stock heat exchanger will result in an increased load on the pumps, potentially reducing their lifespan. This is a direct result of the increased pressures in the coolant system caused by the restrictive factory heat exchanger. For this reason, we recommend only using this kit on cars that have an upgraded heat exchanger. Don't you want your cooling system working at its maximum potential anyway?
