Z1's VRX70 Turbochargers for the Infiniti Q50 and Q60 represent the ultimate upgrade for enthusiasts seeking enhanced power and performance from their Infiniti.

These turbochargers are meticulously designed and engineered to deliver exceptional power gains, superb response, and an exhilarating driving experience. The VRX70 turbos are groundbreaking, featuring a completely new turbo assembly with zero parts recycled from the original turbo, eliminating the need for a core charge or return and making them the most cost-effective and practical upgrade option available. Equipped with a high-efficiency billet compressor wheel, advanced turbine blade design, and larger .70 A/R turbine housing, they offer a substantial increase in airflow, supporting over 700 horsepower on vehicles with appropriate fuel systems and other modifications. Not only do these turbochargers deliver remarkable performance enhancements, but they are also built to endure the most demanding driving conditions, thanks to their high-quality construction and durable materials, ensuring they perform at their peak for years to come.

The Z1 VRX70 Turbochargers are a direct bolt-on upgrade, providing all the necessary components such as new oil and water lines, gaskets, and hardware for a seamless installation process.

Why larger turbos?

As you read through, you might have thought, "I want more power, obviously," but there's more to gain from larger turbos than just power.

The stock turbos on your VR30 are tiny, almost resembling those fit for a Honda Fit. While this benefits engine response, it leads to poor performance at higher RPMs, especially when boosting with a tune. Despite feeling responsive and quick initially, a Q50 struggles beyond peak power in the power band, feeling asthmatic with a rapid drop in power. This is because the stock housings can't flow enough air to meet the engine's demand. Tuners often compensate by increasing boost pressure, but this creates excessive pre-turbine pressure, raising heat levels and the risk of detonation. This underscores the need for upgraded turbos: larger turbos offer increased airflow with less restriction.

Z1's VRX70 Turbos come with a .70 A/R turbine housing, significantly enhancing flow compared to the stock .53 A/R housings. This boosts power efficiency, requiring less boost pressure for similar power levels. It also reduces turbine speeds and simplifies heat management. Crucially, it helps the engine produce more horsepower towards the peak, where sports cars are meant to excel. To address boost creep, we've maximized the wastegate port's surface area with a unique port shape.

Installation Note: The VRX70 reuses your Q's existing wastegate actuator and speed sensor (on Red Sport applications) and must be configured properly when installed. Please understand this is a critical process, and failure to install and adjust the wastegate actuator properly will result in issues when operating and tuning the car. For this reason, we recommend these turbos be installed by a competent and reputable performance shop.

THE GAINS

The dyno graph below represents what we consider to be a safe limit for 93-octane fuel, making 503whp and 469wtq at only 17PSI!. This was completed on Z1's Q60 with the following power mods:

  • Z1 Cat-Back Touring Exhaust
  • Z1 Low-Pressure Fuel Pump
  • Z1 Level 2 Cooling Upgrade
  • Z1 Cold Air Intakes

The dyno graph below shows the upwards potential of the VRX70 with higher octane fuel. This tune was completed on the exact same car with 104-octane race gas and was tuned to the limits of the MAP sensor, making 670whp and 595wtq. A high pressure fuel pump was necessary to reach this power level.

Is 670whp just not enough? Then the dyno sheet below may satisfy you. Our friends at SOHO took the VRX70 even further, pushing them to 754whp and 587wtq, an astounding figure for a street driven car.
